Reciting the Holy Quran with Tajweed — correct pronunciation and articulation — is one of the most beautiful and rewarding skills a Muslim can develop. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “Recite the Quran in a beautiful manner.” (Abu Dawud) At Hidayah Quran, our online Tajweed classes are taught one-to-one by our qualified female teacher, making them ideal for sisters and families who prefer to learn in a private, comfortable environment.

Understanding Tajweed

What is Tajweed?

Tajweed (تجويد) means ‘to do something well’ or ‘to make something beautiful.’ In the context of the Quran, Tajweed refers to the set of rules that govern how each letter of the Arabic alphabet should be pronounced — from its exact point of articulation (Makhraj) and its characteristics (Sifaat).

The scholars of Islam unanimously agree that reciting the Quran with Tajweed is an obligation (fard) for every Muslim.

Quranic Obligation

Allah commands recitation with tarteel — measured, careful recitation (Al-Muzzammil 73:4). Tajweed fulfils this divine command.

Prophetic Tradition

The rules of Tajweed preserve exactly how the Prophet ﷺ recited, through 1,400 years of unbroken oral transmission.

Correct Meaning

Mispronouncing Arabic letters can change the meaning of Quranic verses. Tajweed protects the integrity of the Divine Word.

Spiritual Depth

Reciting with Tajweed deepens mindfulness and spiritual connection during Salah and personal Quran reading.
