Work begins on the letters themselves and the points in the mouth and throat they come from. Most adults discover here that two or three letters they have said their whole life have been slightly wrong, which is normal and fixable.

Letters start joining into words, short vowels and sukoon come in, and you begin reading real lines rather than drills. This is the stage where progress becomes obvious to you, not just to the teacher.

Short surahs you already know by ear get read from the page, which is when most students feel it click. From here the path forks towards fluency, Tajweed rules, memorisation or meaning, depending on what you want.
