Quran Classes via Zoom vs WhatsApp vs Google Meet — Which Platform is Best?

Back to Blog

If you are considering online Quran classes, one of your first practical questions is: “Which app do I use?” The good news is that all three major platforms — Zoom, WhatsApp and Google Meet — can work effectively for Quran teaching. The best choice depends on your situation.

Zoom for Quran Classes

Best for: Tajweed students, older children and adults who want the most feature-rich experience.

Zoom's standout feature for Quran teaching is screen sharing — the teacher can share the Quran page or Noorani Qaida on screen and both teacher and student see exactly the same thing simultaneously. The audio quality is also excellent, which matters greatly for Tajweed correction.

Pros

  • + Screen sharing
  • + Excellent audio
  • + Whiteboard feature
  • + Recording option

Cons

  • - Student needs to click a link to join (small extra step)

WhatsApp for Quran Classes

Best for: Children, beginners, tech-cautious students, UAE and Pakistan-based learners.

WhatsApp is the simplest option — you already have it on your phone. The teacher simply calls you at your class time, exactly like a regular video call. Many of our youngest students and adult beginners love WhatsApp because there is no new technology to learn. WhatsApp also allows the teacher to send voice note recordings of correct recitation between classes — a powerful way to practice.

Pros

  • + No setup required
  • + Familiar interface
  • + Voice notes for practice

Cons

  • - No screen sharing
  • - Slightly lower audio quality than Zoom

Google Meet for Quran Classes

Best for: Families who use Gmail and Google services, or who prefer not to use Zoom or WhatsApp.

Google Meet works much like Zoom — screen sharing is available, audio is clear, and it works on any device. Many UK and Australian students prefer it because they already use Google services.

Pros

  • + Screen sharing
  • + Good audio
  • + Works on any device
  • + No account needed for students

Cons

  • - Less familiar to some users than WhatsApp

Our Recommendation

  • For children under 8:WhatsApp — simple and familiar
  • For Tajweed students:Zoom — best audio for pronunciation correction
  • For adult beginners:Either WhatsApp or Google Meet
  • For UAE students:WhatsApp — most reliable connectivity

The great news is: you do not need to commit to one platform. Many of our students use WhatsApp for weekday classes and Zoom for their weekly longer Tajweed session.
